Feeling hungry? Savour Strathcona is back after a year off and is ready to serve up Strathcona County’s favourite local eats.
“We’re really excited to have [the event] coming back this year, and we’ve made a ton of changes to make sure that it is as safe as possible for all the attendees,” says Eiblis Doherty, business development and tourism assistant of Economic Development and Tourism for Strathcona County. “We’re really excited that it’s going forward.”
Savour Strathcona celebrates local food, art and businesses. Food trucks and vendors from restaurants like Banh Mi Zon, Bodega Sherwood Park, Casa12doce and the Purple Perogy will be on-site for you to try each restaurant’s best-selling dishes.
Local artists and artisans will have their artwork on display and for sale for guests to browse. There is also a lineup of live performances from Chubby Cree, Logan Klaus, D’orjay the Singing Shaman, Braden Gates and Rhea March.
“Everybody’s really excited about coming back,” says Doherty. “This is just one of the ways that we’re able to support local businesses, who have obviously been in a tough spot for the past 17 months due to COVID. So, this is just a way to support those neighbours or friends and family who operate the small businesses in our community. And this is just another way that we can show them that we’re there for them.”
Savour Strathcona is on September 12 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Strathcona County Community Centre Angora (401 Festival Lane, Sherwood Park). The event is free to attend and no taste tickets will be sold at the event. Each vendor will be taking their own payment.
While you’re there, as a fundraiser for Team Canada’s quest to compete at the World Butcher Challenge in Sacramento, Sherwood Park will host a legit sausage throw-down on September 12 at 1 p.m. Bangers & Beers will see some of Edmonton’s top sausage makers battle, and you get to taste the spoils.
