A few years ago, I was making work inspired by the sun when I learned that “sunne” was once feminine in Old
English. That sparked an origin myth I wanted to stage. I collaborated with Stephanie Dover, who made
sculptural pieces — including this headdress — and performed the myth as I photographed her. —Zachary Ayotte
