Padmanadi
It’s a dream that started in late ’70s
Jakarta, Indonesia, and continued in
Edmonton when the Kasim family
moved here in 2002. It has since
turned into a reality that’s as simple
as the ingredients this restaurant uses:
Padmanadi is one of the very best vegan
restaurants in Edmonton, and it will be
for as long as the Kasims run it.
We suggest starting with the Tom
Yum Soup, then some Curry Mutton and
the Padmanadi Vegetable Deluxe. But
you’ll need to make a few visits to find
your faves among the extensive menu
that’s full of vegan options that will
satiate even the most ravenous meat
eaters. With two Edmonton locations,
there’s one near enough to you. But
we like the downtown location best —
there’s something about eating next to a
giant smiling Buddha statue that turns a
meal from bountiful to blessed. – C.S.

An Chay
If I ever get married, An Chay is catering the wedding —
no question. Guests don’t even have to show up on time
for the ceremony or stay on the dance floor. Just make
sure you’re there for the food.
The Coconut Curry’s vegetables are soft without being
mushy, the broth is rich without being too heavy, and the
spices are warm and comforting without setting your
mouth on fire. Honestly, I’d skip wedding cake if it meant
an extra serving. Now that I’ve sorted the menu out, I just

The Moth Cafe
The Moth is not only a favourite vege-
tarian spot, but a vegan one, too. None
of its dishes contain dairy or eggs, and
many are gluten-free, making this a good
destination for those with dietary re-
strictions — or anyone who enjoys a light
meal. Every dish is packed with flavour,
thanks to the use of seasonal produce
and several homemade sauces and
condiments. It serves its breakfast items
all day, too, if you’re a fan of breakfast
for dinner. In addition to the delicious
food, its breezy, calming interior makes
it an oasis in the middle of a busy inter-
