Q: This month, we’re featuring Edmonton’s Lisa Gilroy, whose talent and hard work has put her on the (relative) fast track in Hollywood. Who’s someone you know that’s a total natural, someone who just gets it and makes you wonder, “Does this person ever struggle?”
EMILY PHUNG
I’ve always been jealous and in awe of my friend who is an amazing chef. They always seem in their element and in a state of flow, even when it gets insanely busy! Their passion and love for food comes out in the most amazingly creative ways — they just seem to “get it” in ways most people don’t. I’ve strived for this in my own career and it has made me reflect on how to lead with passion first when creating my own art.
MICHAEL HINGSTON
A high-school friend of mine was unbelievably quick at memorizing song lyrics. We would challenge each other to recite the entirety of, say, OutKast's "B.O.B.," and, while I could barely get a verse down after an entire evening with my Discman, Tim would have the whole thing done and dusted by the end of lunch. "Hit somersaults without the net" indeed.
ADAM GOUDREAU
I love karaoke — love it. But I'm decidedly terrible at it, and my pals all seemingly moonlight as silky-smooth vocalists by comparison. Luckily at midnight,
when we're all collectively shout-singing a bad Creed song, it's hard to tell who's in key and who isn't.
