Q:
We’re talking developing (and redeveloped) neighbourhoods in this issue, and
we want to know what you’d do. A river valley roller coaster, a winter iceway
down Whyte Ave, yet another parking level at West Edmonton Mall — what’s
one new development (practical or not) that you think our city needs?
CAROLINE
BARLOTT
If I could snap my fingers and
suddenly have something
change about Edmonton’s
indoor spaces, I'd want to
see fantastic indoor air
quality and energy efficiency
in all buildings, particularly
schools and hospitals.
It would reduce illness
transmission along with
complications from illnesses
and wildfire smoke, and it
would improve accessibility
for high-risk folks.
OMAR MOUALLEM
You know those touch screen maps in malls? What if we
had those on main streets like Whyte and Jasper? It could
guide you to the nearest cafe, drug store or bus stop, and
give you real-time updates on public transportation.
These digital wayfinding kiosks — which do exist in other
cities — would encourage more walking, busing, and
shopping at small businesses.
MATT
FONTAINE
I’d like to see the pool
outside city hall get
back to the way it
used to be with water
that’s a bit deeper.
With maybe some
more fountains in the
area. And I want to
see Hawrelak Park
come back!
