Frida spent her life refusing to hide from difficult subjects and rejecting the ‘normative behaviors of the time. She painted what she knew; herself, her pain and agony, all the ways in which she had NOT been fulfilled. In her lifetime she was a freedom fighter, a feminist, a fashion icon, and blurred the lines of sexual identity and cultural norms. From her perspective, life should be lived to the fullest no matter the obstacles, women should be who they are, you should not deny yourself love or power wherever you find it.
