New York in the 80’s was a city divided. It had overcome their financial crisis from the previous decade, Wall Street was booming, and real estate was making a comeback. This brought forth a new obsession with wealth andopulence. However, this feeling was not shared by everyone. Although New York was considered a mecca for artistic expression, it had a dark side. Crime was rampant, drugs and homelessness were at an all time high, and tensions relating to race and sexual-identity were felt throughout the city. This dichotomy shaped New York into the city it is today.
