Study the history of Tibetan textiles through the Dragons on the Tibetan Plateau exhibition held at the University of Alberta museum. Originally an in-person show, the museum took 360 images of the displays and turned it into a virtual exhibition with audio narration.
The user-friendly exhibition is best viewed on either a desktop or a laptop but can be accessible through VR goggles and smartphones as well.
The collection display is part of the Mactaggart Art Collection, which hosts 1,000 art pieces, the majority of which are textile.
“The exhibition explores design and the production of a selection of textiles from Tibet between the 16th and 19th century,” says Jill Horbay, museum communications and marketing manager.
Attached to the dragon exhibition is a scavenger hunt as well as an embroidery project, which was added to be a hands-on activity. For this, you can learn how to do an embroidery design based on the exhibition pieces displayed.
It is difficult to say whether the art of textile is gaining popularity, but Horbay says there is definitely an audience for it.
