Edify welcomes story pitches from both established and new contributors. Send pitches to [email protected]. Please do not pitch via phone call.
We do not accept complete stories or manuscripts. Send us a riveting pitch that gives us a feel for what the story is about and your writing style (no more than 3-4 paragraphs). Tell us a bit about yourself — and include a couple of samples of your work (PDFs are best – we don’t recommend links as they can become inactive).
Do not send us pitches based on another story you read. “Soft” pitches (a one- or two-sentence query such as, “Would you be interested in a story about dogs?”) are not sufficient. There needs to be a story.
Address your pitch to the appropriate editor (you can find the names on our masthead), not “To Whom it May Concern” or “Dear Edify.”
We do not accept unsolicited articles or artwork. A commissioned piece is only considered assigned when a signed contract between Odvod Publishing Inc. and the contract is in place to protect both parties.
We work on a very extended schedule, so do not pitch stories about events that happen a couple of weeks from now. Pitches for stories should be submitted a minimum of four months ahead of when it may be published (for example, if you send us a pitch in January, it should be relevant to be published in the May issue or later).
Our contributors cannot accept enticements from any subject they cover or interview. Any promotional items need to be cleared by the editor in advance.
Though we try to respond to all pitches, if you don’t receive a response from us within 30 days of your submission, it is likely that we can’t take the story. You’re welcome to follow up on the pitch via email, but please wait at least one week from when you sent your initial proposal.
