This year marks the 10th anniversary for the Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge, which supports Special Olympics Alberta. Funds raised in this year’s event will help develop and run virtual programming for the 3,300 athletes that represent the 140 communities across the province.
Admittedly I’ve never taken the plunge myself (the idea of the frigid cold scares me), but thankfully this year, you can participate virtually and in the privacy of your own home/backyard. And you can get as creative as you want to – which means I can finally take part by making snow angels, swimming in an inflatable pool, or if I get my brother to help, having buckets of cold water thrown on me (yay …?).
And of course, there are incentives for your bravery – each plunger receives a face mask and gift card to Tim Hortons, while higher fundraising amounts get you things that will keep you warm after your next polar plunge, like a towel or plush bath robe!
Register your fundraising efforts (and post your success online!) until March 13. Luckily for me, we’re experiencing an unusual mild spell so the cold won’t feel as cold … right?
