The sun is shining, the province is re-opening and patios are being extended out onto the street. What could be a better way to kick off summer? Al Fresco on 4th is bringing the party every weekend with sidewalk patios, curated vendors and community programming.
“104th Street has the perfect combination of residents nearby, a history of food markets, and amazing patios,” says Chris Buyze, president of the Downtown Edmonton Community League. “It’s a top food destination in Edmonton, and we’re excited to showcase that.”
A similar event, the Al Fresco Market, was held last summer and a two-day extended patio event called A Taste of Al Fresco was held in the spring. The Al Fresco series was designed to bring people back to the downtown core and support local businesses while creating a vibrant atmosphere.
Al Fresco on 4th will run every weekend on 104 Street from June 12 to September 18. The street will be closed from Jasper Avenue to 102 Avenue to make the market accessible to pedestrians and cyclists only. The event is great for the family and pet-friendly so don’t leave your four-legged furry friends at home. A number of patios, including Say Uncle, are pet-friendly, too, so even your dog can enjoy an iced cold drink on the patio.
“We’ve had great patio events on this street, and we’ve always had the market, but never both,” says Jimmy Shewchuk, owner of Say Uncle Restaurant. “It’s going to be huge.”
Enjoy the fresh air and the longer days at Al Fresco on 4th every weekend from 10 a.m. on Saturdays to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
