SWEAT Nu Disco and the Grindstone are bringing the club to Louise McKinney Park with the first annual Disco in the Park on July 31 and Aug. 1. The two-day event will feature a weekend of all day dancing orchestrated by over a dozen local DJs, national headliner, Neighbour, and two-time Juno award-winner, Hatiras.
“[We] just thought that is a perfect time to get back to some dancing that people have been missing a ton, but also do it spread out in an open space where everybody is feeling comfortable and nice,” says Joses Martin, SWEAT Nu Disco founder and festival producer for Disco in the Park.
Creating a welcoming atmosphere has been part of SWEAT’s mandate since its founding in 2014, with the DJ collective describing themselves as an “electronic music dance party focused on 100 per cent positive vibes, where party people feel welcome to have some serious fun on the dance floor.”
And although Disco in the Park will see the dance floor transform from concrete to grass, Martin is still looking to create an event with a broad appeal.
“As DJs and music lovers, [we] are all about bringing people in and making them feel comfortable,” he says. “It’s actually a perfect kind of event for not necessarily hardcore festival goers, but for a wide variety of people, whether it’s local families, pop music lovers or hardcore electronic music heads. It’s something for everybody to get down to.”
In addition to live music, Disco in the Park will also feature a live mural wall painted by the MINBID Crew as well as catering from Woodshed Burgers. Event details and links to purchase tickets can be found on the Grindstone’s website.
