Shakti is the divine feminine power representing liberation, strength and empowerment; and it’s Sarah Bowker’s inspiration for her jewellery business.
Bowker taught herself to make jewellery at a young age and sold her pieces at markets and festivals until she graduated from university. She spent 10 years working as a pediatric nurse, opened her own yoga studio and routinely travelled to India where she reconnected with her love for jewellery. After giving birth to her son, she decided to design full time.
“I love purpose–based adornment, and in those countries people wear jewellery because it always has a purpose,” says Bowker. “I learned a lot through the culture, and just the way they adorn themselves in the meaning and symbolism.”
Bowker designs every piece of jewellery, which feature gemstones and symbols like crescent moons, lotus flowers and skulls. The gemstones are natural, high-grade and ethically sourced.
Shakti Jewelry sells rings, earrings and bracelets, which are released under collections like Mantra, Protection Threads, Amulets and Chakra Necklaces. Bowker says the best selling collection is Shakti Fine, a line of jewellery made from gold and gemstones.
“I use a lot of mantras and it helps me a lot through difficult times in my life,” says Bowker. “It’s just such a powerful practice. So, typically, I don’t ever sell anything unless it’s something I’ve used in my personal spiritual practice for many, many years.”
