The Winter Olympics are coming up and a batch of Canada’s best figure skaters will compete for gold. But, if your skills are better suited for a community rink, then it’s time to visit Churchill Square.
City Hall Plaza turns into a skating destination every Friday and Saturday night, when you can show off your tricks and move to the music. A lineup of DJs switch out nightly so there’s always something new to look forward to. Get funky with DJ Funkasaurus on Feb. 4 for Disco Inferno night, or throw it back to the ’80s and ’90s on Feb. 5 with DJ Thomas Culture.
The lineup for the rest of the month includes DJ Gamegirl, DJ Creeasian, a Cariwest special event with DJ Diamond and a Bhangra Bollywood Blizzard presented by Trisaints Events and Entertainment.
Don’t have skates? Not a problem. City Hall Plaza Ice Grooves is part of Edmonton Art Council’s community programming, which offers free skate rentals in Churchill Square Wednesdays and Fridays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
City Hall Plaza Ice Grooves runs every Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event may be cancelled due to inclement weather, so check conditions before heading out.
