It’s a sweetheart of a non-profit partnership. For the second year in a row, the Edmonton Opera and CapitalCare co-hosted a Valentine’s Day fundraiser at the Shaw Conference centre in celeb-ration of art, compassion and love. The 865 guests helped raise approximately $300,000 for the organizations to share, nearly $100,000 more than last year. Individual donations amounted to $56,000, while Irv and Dianne Kipnes, the organizations’ matchmakers, met that generosity dollar for dollar.
Kindness was also apparent by the Canadian Forces members and their partners who were invited by event sponsors. “It’s a nice thing to do,” said Jelena Bojic, the opera’s director of marketing. “They don’t get to spend a lot of time with their spouses, so this is definitely a nice treat for them.”
