Lexi Pendzich’s whole life changed when she adopted her dog, Luca, from a Lethbridge rescue shelter in 2019, and she’s organizing an event to introduce more people to shelters so their lives can change, too.
“He’s impacted my life so much and has meant so much to me,” says Pendzich, organizer of the Puppuccino Pop Up at Good Earth Coffeehouse. “So, just seeing all the dogs that are available throughout the pandemic, and just the amazing work that the shelters are doing, it just seems like a good moment to help these animals that really need their forever homes or there’s other ways that people can help like fostering animals.”
Pendzich is hosting a Puppuccino Pop Up at the recently opened Good Earth Coffeehouse at The MacLaren on 124th Street. Good Earth will serve puppuccinos for all the furry friends that stop by and Pendzich will take pet portraits by donation.
The popup supports Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS), which will be on site sharing information about current dogs up for adoption or in need of foster homes. And if you don’t have a dog but want to see some, SCARS will have alumni rescue dogs at the event. All proceeds from the event will go to SCARS.
“I was thinking, how would I know if this event is a success? And I think I’ll know if it’s a success if one dog shows up, if one person donates to SCARS, if one person expresses interest in adopting or fostering a rescue dog, and if one dog devours a puppuccino,” says Pendzich. “As long as there’s photos to show off dogs having their best day, and SCARS gets new contacts then I think it will be a success.”
