I know I’m not the only one whose K Days memories consist in part of throwing up lemonade and frozen treats after one too many rides… then deciding to take another spin on the Polar Express anyway. And thankfully, for fried-food and fast-ride lovers like myself, K Days has returned this summer.
After a two-year hiatus, the festival returns with a 10-day schedule, upgraded with a new food list, more than 40 rides including the new double-decker merry-go-round, more cultural experiences and shows.
“Make sure you check out the daily schedule and not get lost,” says Amanda Frigon, fair director for K Days. “With three entrances on the map, no matter which way you’re coming from, there are attractions and food trucks around every corner.”
Apart from all-time favourites like spicy curly fries poutine, there are a few crazy takes on this year’s K Days food list. The black sugar boba milk and brisket taco sure look fine. And do you dare to try the pickle cotton candy, Pop Rocks popcorn chicken, along with Oreo fried rice?
“I personally am very interested in the chili lime popcorn shrimp perogies,” says Arlindo Gomes, vice president of Business Development and Venues Management at Explore Edmonton. “My girls loved the mini doughnuts when they were kids, but like many young adults, they’re all in for daring food trends nowadays.”
The entertainment lineup at K Days also got an upgrade. The long time dogs talent show SuperDogs features their first ever SuperCat show this year. And don’t miss out on the Indigenous experience, Pride Day celebrations, a final performance of Grindstone Theatre’s Hot Boy Summer, BaconFest, Alberta Strong Man competition, Great French Canadian Kitchen Party and Edmonton Maker Fair, all happening at K Days.
“We want to make it more about the community. We try to include more local organizations and vendors, and there will be more next year, so people in our community can get the best from it,” says Gomes. “People come to K Days for different reasons, some for the rides, some for the food and markets, but mostly for a good time. This is a festival with great memories of Edmontonians, and we’re excited to continue to build on.”
