And, from the front, this 1987 home, with its white stucco exterior and single skinny window running up the rounded staircase wall, is nice, if unassuming. “But then you come in and it’s like, oh, this is different,” says the wife and mother of the family who fell in love with the house as soon as they stepped into it. “I saw the listing when it was first posted. We were there within hours, with our realtor, Janice [Kosak], and then made an offer immediately, because I’m sure somebody else would have seen how special it was.”
What makes it special is the way it’s divided. The south end is one floor, with a 13-foot living room ceiling and window to match, which connects to the kitchen through the dining room. The north side is two floors, the top of which contains the bedrooms and stunning en suite, which reaches out and looks back on the south end. “I’ve had people look out the window and say, ‘Wow, your neighbours are really close,’ and I’m like, ‘that’s still our house!’” In a way, they don’t really have neighbours, at least none to be seen from the back, which looks out at the tops of the tallest trees in Patricia Ravine.
But the family’s favourite part is the biggest addition they made: the screened-in sunroom that’s really more of a second living room, complete with a couch, television and barbecue. “We actually use this space at Christmas time too. We plexiglass the screens and have heaters up top. Looking out at all the trees covered in snow, it’s beautiful.”
