The Grow Up Conference will bring together cannabis growers of all experience levels for an industry-focused series of panels and awards that seek to help educate and network cannabis professionals. This is the first conference of its kind to hit Alberta, which organizer Randy Rowe says is a “booming” province for the cannabis industry.
“It’s one of the hottest provinces in the industry,” says Rowe. “When you think of cannabis, sometimes you think of B.C. bud, but for years it’s been Alberta that’s really been a powerhouse for growing.”
Expert guests in growing, such as Ed Rosenthal, will speak, and in addition to panels about lighting, nutrients and other production-savvy info, there will be two networking parties and also a seed exchange. Rowe says the exchange allows producers to experiment with different strains and genetics and also encourages networking and collaboration in the industry.
Rowe is also excited about the Canada Cannabis Championship, on May 28, when a group of industry professionals and guests will judge a series of different strains from local Canadian growers.
Rowe has been doing these events since 2017, and he’s eager to help build community in the relatively new field of cannabis growers. “We have a unique opportunity to work in an industry that’s being created. This industry was not around 10 years ago,” he says. It’s something that’s both exciting and challenging because as trends and legislation change, cannabis growers have to adapt. Through building community and educating, Grow Up hopes to help this industry keep sprouting its roots.
Light up and roll on down to the Edmonton Convention Centre May 28 to 30.
