Using beans from cofounder (with partner Kristin Panylyk) Santiago Lopez’s family farm in Colombia, the roasteries consistently deliver excellent coffee alongside standouts like the Loxocado (diced cured salmon and lime-brightened avocado on sourdough) and the perfectly yeasty brioche doughnuts.

With locations on Jasper Avenue and in the Mercury Block — looking into a reimagined Wîhkwêntôwin neighbourhood — Coffee Bureau knows all about location, location, location. These spots are ideal for an Americano or a Flat White, maybe a cherry Danish with some cream cheese, and people watching.
I enjoy the cappuccino that’s so rich it doesn’t need sugar. And it’s obviously convenient that the new Mercury Block location is right across the street from the Edify offices. I don’t know what else a coffee shop can do to curry favour with our judges than open up literally steps away from the editor’s desk. – Steven Sandor

I’m from rural Alberta. Being used to wide-open spaces — think a much colder Radiator Springs from Pixar’s Cars — makes navigating downtown an adventure. The city’s pulse is frantic, and I need a break.

A trip to the lively Mokha Coffee House is much more convenient than a flight to Yemen — and the Middle Eastern-inspired decor makes it hard to tell the difference.
