It’s still winter, but outdoorsy Edmontonians are already preparing for a new season: Parks Canada reservation booking season.
Different national parks open their reservation systems on different days, which (in theory) lightens the load on government websites but also means you need to get your dates right to nab a spot for the summer.
Here’s a list of campground booking launch dates to help you plan your summer:
Backcountry
Banff National Park
Popular backcountry sites like Glacier Lake and Paradise Valley are open for booking starting Monday, Jan. 26.
Jasper National Park
Jasper has a number of popular backcountry sites, like Skyline Trail. They are available to book as of Wednesday, Jan. 28.
Campgrounds
Banff National Park
Arguably this is the big one. Several Banff National Park campgrounds — including Tunnel Mountain and Johnston Canyon, launch on Friday, Jan. 23.
Jasper National Park
Beloved Jasper campsites, including Whistlers and Wapiti, are open for book as of Tuesday, Jan. 27.
Get Ready
We hope you manage to book your dream campsite: quiet, close to a stream, just far enough from the WC. While you stretch those clicking fingers, dig up your password, and steel yourself for a stressful online queue, read this Edify story called Campground Etiquette 101. You’ll be ready when it’s time to pitch your tent.
