Rosewood Foods
Rosewood has been a part of Edmonton’s downtown for more than five years now, but it feels like it has been around much longer. From the day it opened, the beloved restaurant — known for its brunch, lunch, coffee and irresistible baked goods — has had a confidence and a steadiness that can take a long time to cultivate. Undoubtedly, this stems partly from the years co-owners Noah Gado, Jesse Gado and Angela Chau-Gado have spent working in the food industry. But Rosewood also prioritizes simple values like consistency, friendly atmosphere and good food over flavour fads. The menu hasn’t changed drastically since the restaurant opened, and neither has the quality. The food is fresh, flavourful and easy to enjoy on repeat. I’m partial to the Breakfast Bowl: scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese and perfectly roasted potatoes, all punctuated by tomato salsa and chili jam. And whether I intend to or not, I always leave with one of the half-dozen or so types of cruller in hand (or in belly). – Zachary Ayotte

Pip
Pip is back on the Best Brunch list for good reason: it shines during its daily brunch service, though it’s open for dinner, too. The menu is flexible and inclusive, with gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan swaps on many dishes. Pip’s excellent cocktail program starts service with brunch, with the Pip Caesar and Mimosa, and a couple of espresso-based cocktails. (You can get coffees sans alcohol too.) My brunch companions and I have tried every item on the menu between our frequent visits. The Short Rib Eggs Benedict and Savoury Dutch Baby are two favourites. A good brunch menu offers both sweet and savoury fare, and Pip gets it right with a couple of sweet mains and a pastry — you can always add a side of biscotti with your coffee, too. – Breanna Mroczek
