April 2
The Metro Cinema is virtually screening movies from the French Film Festival until 11:59 p.m. on April 2. This is your chance to watch movies like La Belle Époque, a beautiful story of Victor who relives the week he met the love of his life.
April 5
SheShreds is accepting applications for its bike school starting April 5. The school is for women interested in exploring the river valley and other locations via bicycle. Instructors will run courses on mountain biking and will lead three ability groups — Ninja, Rock Stars and Hot Shots — every week.
April 6 and April 15
On April 6 and April 15, the Oasis Centre will dim down its lights for two in-person candlelight shows. Performances will be held at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., with some of Beethoven’s best work performed live by a string quartet. Lose yourself in the ambiance and music for an hour.
April 7 – 10
Visit Lando Gallery during regular hours, or make your personal appointment to purchase your next work of art at their annual Spring Exhibition and Sale. Open Tuesday through Saturday, gallery artists include Steven Friedman, Karen Rieger, Holly Burghardt, Teresa Healy, Kristine McGuinty, Jana Milne, John Snow, Lee Anne Pellerin, Brian Scott, Adele Knowler, Barbara McGivern and more.
April 7 – 28 (weekly on Wednesdays)
There will be parties again, and you know it’s not a proper party without some dancing. Learn swing dancing with Sugar Swing Ballroom’s weekly classes for moves that are sure to impress. Classes start on April 7 at 7:30 p.m.
April 8
West End Gallery is showing Steve R. Coffey’s prairie-inspired online exhibit until April 8. Coffey’s art captures the beauty of the sky and reflects the aloneness one can feel. Prefer an old-fashioned gallery experience? You can make a private appointment with the Gallery to see the works in-person.
April 9
Join Biera, Color de Vino and acclaimed local mixologist, James Grant, as they host a virtual discussion about Edmonton’s ever-changing bar scene and try some of his one-of-a-kind cocktail concoctions that you can pre-order to enjoy from home.

The Evolution Wonderlounge is holding a bottle drive on April 11 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Naked Cyber Cafe. All the money raised goes to the John M. Kerr Memorial Bursary for LGBTQ+ post-secondary students.

Alberta Conservation Association biologist Kris Kendell is holding a seminar on Edmonton’s amphibians on April 13 at 6 p.m. Learn about the threats they face and how you can help them survive.

The city has been holding its breath for the long-awaited Imagine Van Gogh exhibition. The revised opening date is now April 15. Take a look at the classic art from a different perspective.

The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald has partnered up with local artist Giselle Denis to take you on a culinary journey, with their pop-up restaurant Ephemeral. You will be surrounded by Denis’s paintings inside a garden with beautiful floral installations. It’s a journey of the senses — food, surrounded by beautiful pictures and rich conversation.

Downtown has a special spark this month. The City of Edmonton, Downtown Business Association, Explore Edmonton and Edmonton Arts Council have partnered up to liven up the downtown area with art. There are giants looking down at us, birds chirping from CO*LAB, and art animated across buildings.

The annual Lyrid meteor shower is expected to be in view starting on April 16th (although experts suspect the best viewing date will be April 19th when the meteors will be most active). If the skies are clear, be prepared for a stellar light show!

The Old Army and Navy store is opening its doors to a new market series. The Whyte Elephant Market sale is similar to a garage sale and will feature local vendors, vintage and repurposed products, with some delicious eats.

Canadian cinema is often overlooked in favour of US films, but today is our day to shine. Celebrate Canadian filmmakers on National Canadian Film Day with your favourite streaming service, or participate in the virtual events happening across the country.

On April 22nd, we celebrate our planet. The best way to celebrate Earth Day is to make conscious decisions based on their environmental impact.
April 25
It’s finally barbecue season. But this year, you should up your game. The gang at Rig Hand Distillery will show you how to source your beef and grind your own blend on April 25th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with Pitmaster Fundamentals. They’ll even teach you which condiment works with which burger. Turn your burger game into something epic. Although the class is held inside, make sure to bring a jacket for when you’re outside at the grill.
April 26
Head over to Elk Island on April 26th to spend the afternoon listening to wildlife, maybe having a barbecue, and looking up at the pink moon which will be visible at 11:33 p.m. At that time, the moon will be at its biggest, pinkest self. If the skies are clear, that is.
