Back in my Day
July 6 to 13
Edmonton and District Historical Society’s Historic Festival and Doors Open invites locals to discover the city’s history. Tour the Edmonton Public Schools Archives and Museum, take part in a scavenger hunt at the Alberta Aviation Museum or discover Old Strathcona’s food scene with a walking tour.
On Stage
July 8
Australian indie-folk darlings The Paper Kites take the stage at the Winspear this month, blending delicate harmonies, finger-picked guitar and poetic lyrics.
Lost and Found
July 9 to 13
Find theatre, poetry, visual art and music in unexpected places at the Found Festival. On the festival mainstage, find Lucky Charm, an immersive theatre experience in a secret location — you’ll have to buy tickets to find out where.
Star-crossed Lovers
July 9 to 19
Nothing says summer like a frothy rom com — thankfully, Shakespeare in Love arrives at the Walterdale Theatre to fit the bill. Based on the 1998 film, the play tells the (fictional) story of the muse who cures Shakespeare’s writer’s block and inspires Romeo and Juliet.
Film Roulette
July 13
Metro Cinema hosts another Kino Confidential — a film screening that’s a surprise to the audience until it rolls. Watch for clues on Metro’s Instagram and see if you can guess the film.
Just Dance
July 14 to 27
REELING: Dance on Screen brings dance films from around the world to Edmonton. With two weeks of screenings, dance intensives and a dance party, there’s something for dancers, enthusiasts and new fans alike.
Street Art
July 11 to 13
The Whyte Avenue Art Walk celebrates 30 years of vibrant arts and culture. Every kind of art imaginable (and likely some you couldn’t even imagine) line the streets from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
Local Flavour
July 17 to 27
It just wouldn’t be July without Taste of Edmonton. Take a culinary tour of the city without leaving Churchill Square, enjoy performances by Canadian artists — and bring your walking shoes.
Experience the Great Outdoors
July 18 to 20
Edmonton has another comedy festival this month — the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival takes over Kinsmen Park. Catch some rays and sets by some of the world’s biggest comics, from John Mulaney to Martin Short. Just don’t forget your sunscreen.
