The Thousand Faces Festival is welcoming guests to a feast and mythic cabaret of dance, art and storytelling. The String of Mythic Pearls Feast includes food from restaurants on Alberta Avenue and performances from a variety of cultures.
“The inspiration for it, once upon a time, was that it’s like an evening’s entertainment that royalty or nobility might have had,” says Mark Henderson, artistic director of Thousand Faces Festival. “It’s incredibly evocative, engaging, and tells amazing stories. And it’s all spread out over an evening where you’re moving from place to place to see these completely different things created by local artists.”
The Thousand Faces Festival consists of a lineup of entertainment and food at the Alberta Avenue Community League. The lineup includes DerRic Starlight and his puppets, classical Indian dances performed by Riya Mittal, a collection of poems by Maggie Field and a South Asian dance performed by Malavika and the Natyam Ensemble.
“Some of the stuff you see here, you can see at other places, but you’re not going to see it together in context like this,” says Henderson. It’s an adventure and it’s really just a wonderful evening.”
Thousand Faces Festival: A String of Mythic Pearls Feast takes place on October 15 and October 16 at Alberta Avenue Community League (9210 118 Ave. NW). Tickets are by donation.
