Papillon at Mile Zero Dance
On Friday, September 26 and Saturday, September 27 contemporary dance studio Mile Zero Dance will present Papillon, the dynamic performance from We All Fall Down Productions that blends street and contemporary dance. Accompanied by a live musical soundtrack, Papillon incorporates jazz, hip-hop and drum’n’bass to create a hypnotic show inspired by — of all things — chaos theory and complex mathematical equations. The show has been performed across Canada, Europe and Africa, and Mile Zero has been working to bring Papillon to Edmonton for over three years. At long last, it’s here.
Papillon will be presented on September 26 and September 27, 2025.

Maya Ben David at Latitude 53
British film star Vivian Leigh said that comedy was much more difficult than tragedy, noting, “It’s much easier to make people cry than to make them laugh.” Contemporary artist Maya Ben David is up to the challenge. The Jewish-Iranian artist maintains a practice that blends performance, online video production and costume design to poke fun at contemporary life — social media, DIY production, parasocial relationships. Through humour and absurdity, David’s work draws on the long and complex history of the clown, mirroring the bizarreness of today’s world back at the viewer. Her exhibition, Winged Tombs: the Predatory Origins of Prehistoric Airplanes, explores different versions of The Anthropomorphic Airplane, a recurring character in her work. David recently completed a residency at The Banff Centre, where some of the manifestations in the exhibition were workshopped.
Winged Tombs: the Predatory Origins of Prehistoric Airplanes is on display until November 1, 2025.
