Shane Turgeon has been a collector all his life, and he’s created an event for like-minded people.
“Edmonton Collector Con is a one-day show that is dedicated to collecting pop culture memorabilia, primarily toys, action figures and comic books, but also video games and movie posters,” says Turgeon.
Edmonton Collector Con typically hosts multiple events a year, and this is the first of 2022. Collectors can expect a curation of over 65 vendors from across Alberta, mostly local companies and private dealers.
Turgeon started the show eight years ago after working six years as the general manager of the Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo. The expo drew in large crowds, VIP guests and a variety of sellers, but Turgeon wanted to create a more intimate local event.
“In the middle of that I realized that all I ever wanted to do was just run a toy and comic book show with no guests and none of the other knickknacks,” says Turgeon. “As the expos got bigger and bigger, the collectibles started becoming more and more phased out in favour of their corporate partners.”
Edmonton Collector Con is on March 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Italian Cultural Centre, located at 14230 133 Ave. NW. Tickets are $7 and children 12 years and under are free. Face masks are recommended, but not required.
