Kelly Hodgson, operations manager at United Sport and Cycle, has been a fan of the Edmonton Oilers since they joined the NHL. He’s followed them through the dynasty years and is excited to see what will become of the team with players like Connor McDavid, especially now that the team has qualified for the Stanley Cup playoffs for the second year in a row.
To celebrate, Hodgson and the team at United Cycle and Sport organized Edmonton’s first NHL playoffs drive-thru. No, you can’t get a burger and fries to-go, but you can get flags, jerseys, hats, decor and more. Show your Oilers pride while driving around the city or transform your home into a watch-party paradise.
“It’s an exciting time for the city. We know what it used to be like to celebrate the playoffs — you’d go down to the rink or go downtown, but you can’t do any of those things right now,” says Hodgson. “We didn’t want the playoffs to go by without any sort of thing happening, so we decided to set up an Oilers drive-thru where people can come by and get geared up, whether it be a car flag or a t-shirt, or even a barbecue flipper.”
The Oilers Drive-Thru is on until Friday, May 14th so make sure to get down there before the event ends. United Sport and Cycle’s staff will be in the parking lot from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. to gear you up for the playoffs.
While there are no future events planned yet, Hodgson says there is a possibility that United Sport and Cycle might host a similar event during the playoffs if it is safe to do so.
“So much lately has been about restrictions, lockdowns, the economy, and COVID and all those things,” says Hodgson. “It’s fun to have this distraction to celebrate the playoffs. It’s something exciting and something fun.”
United Sport and Cycle is located at 7620 Gateway Blvd.
