If you’re looking for one more reason to visit the gorgeous University of Alberta Botanic Garden this Friday, let it be opera in the open air. After a three-year hiatus, Opera al Fresco is back with live music, curated food and drinks for an end-of-summer celebration.
While the botanic garden features many unique garden spaces, the Edmonton Opera team selects four gardens for stages, including the spectacular Aga Khan Garden. The audience can visit any of the four gardens with an occurring program throughout the evening.
“If there’s a program that you’re really passionate about, you can actually stay in the same garden the whole time,” says Joel Ivany, artistic director of Edmonton Opera.
With this being his first Opera al Fresco, Ivany has been monitoring the weather forecast, and looking forward to bringing his whole family to the garden.
“At Opera al Fresco, you’d be able to take in the spirits of the winds, trees and the sky,” says Ivany. “It’s such a different experience from enjoying opera indoors. You can choose to sit or stand, accompanied by charcuterie and drinks. We want it to be a special night for everyone.”
Chase the summer night breeze at Opera al Fresco, August 26. The two-hour program starts at seven with general seating.
