In its 16th year, Kaleido Fest is bringing the festival to you with Kaleido 2021 On Tour: Dancin’ in the Streets! The festival will pop up in parks and alleys along Alberta Avenue, and mobile stages will park at various locations throughout the Alberta Avenue district.
“We’re calling them menagerie locations, where we’ll be on site for three hours with performances, chalk art and food trucks,” says Christy Morin, artistic director and general manager of Arts on the Ave. “So it’s sort of a weekend extravaganza of different beautiful performances and experiences.”
Kaleido 2021 On Tour: Dancin’ in the Streets will be at the Delton Community League, Eastwood Community League, Spruce Avenue Community League, the Carrot Community Arts Coffeehouse, Borden Park and more. The lineup of events includes an Aurora lantern celebration, glow dance party, pancake breakfast and a variety of performances.
Head over to Jazz Alley on 93rd Street and 118th Avenue to hear live jazz music from Dana Anderson, the Joe Semple Quartet, the Craig Brenan Trio and others. Or visit the Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society (11648 85 Street) to see a Smudge Ceremony and powwow demonstrations, as well as performances from the Métis Child & Family Jiggers and William Prince.
“It’s great being able to go into each community,” says Morin. “Normally we are stationary on 118th Avenue and everyone comes to us because we’re sort of that central location, but over the last two years we’ve been outreaching into all of our communities and it’s been really rewarding.”
Kaleido 2021 On Tour: Dancin’ in the Streets takes place September 10 until September 12 in a variety of locations in the Alberta Avenue district. Each event is free and the daily schedules can be found on Kaleido Fest’s website.
