Around 180 local community leaders gathered at the Edmonton Public Library’s Jasper Place Branch for Apricity’s Once Upon a Springtime fundraiser. The funds were earmarked for the EPL’s “Welcome Baby” program, which promotes early learning by giving early developmental and literacy tools to families with newborn children.
On March 22, supporters basked in wonder as the world of literacy was interpreted through the eyes of children.
“We wanted to create a unique guest experience and something the city hasn’t seen before,” says Rowena Cui, board chair at Apricity. “We wanted this to be a non-traditional fundraiser.”
To aid in the experience, local food producers such as North 53, Pinocchio Ice Cream, Duchess Bake Shop, Elm Caf, Sherbrooke Liquor, District Coffee Co. and Moonshine Doughnuts donated their time, drinks and treats to the event, while magicians and poets gave roving performances.
