This spring, hit attractions like the Art Gallery of Alberta and local hot spots like Remedy Cafe during the Do Local Good Scavenger Hunt, presented by YEG Downtown Collaboration. Post photos from each location to Instagram for your chance to win prizes donated from participating businesses. The scavenger hunt was designed to support downtown businesses that may have struggled since the beginning of the pandemic.
“The idea was to get people back out, and get into practice of being out with your family and your friends and getting reconnected again with your community,” says Renée Chan, relationship manager of Affinity Groups for United Way of the Alberta Capital Region.
The scavenger hunt list is split up into four categories: Support Local Businesses, Support a United Way Funded Partner, Explore Local Landmarks and Improve Your Mental Health. Buying a coffee or taking a yoga class are just two things you can do to partake in the scavenger hunt. It was important to make the list of activities accessible and easy, so that anyone can participate.
“The more you check off the list, and the more you share about how you’re taking care of yourself and your community, the more entries you get to win these prize packages,” says Chan.
The Do Local Good Scavenger Hunt is on until April 2 and interested participants can register online with a donation of any amount. All proceeds raised go towards programs and initiatives through United Way.
