Walking around Churchill Square this summer, chances are you’ll can find a variety of art events every weekend. But you really don’t want to miss miss out on the UP on the Square summer celebration this Saturday. This free, family friendly event features live music, local art exhibitions, popup shops, food trucks and art activities.
“We wanted it to be a celebration to kick off the summer season,” says Danny Ross, business manager of TIX on the Square. “It’s exciting to see we are moving more events onto Churchill Square, and more local organizations are able to hold events again. Concerts, art showcases, family activities — lots of fun is happening this summer in the city, and this day would be a good start.”
Last year, the Edmonton Arts Council hosted a pilot version of the UP on the Square event following the COVID safety guidelines at the time. The idea was to combine the ways of supporting local artists and celebrating the summer season.
This year’s UP on the Square celebration extends its events lineup, including a showcase of student design projects, DJs playing throughout the day, and SNAP print stations for people to make their own printed tote bags.
“TIX on the Square has a great location, right at the Churchill Square. We just want to make sure the focus is on Edmonton’s local artists, who make our community vibrant and awesome.”
