A lot of Edmontonians refer to Jasper as our backyard. And no matter if you’ve gone there to golf or ski, taken a kayak out onto the glacial waters, or just stopped to admire some of the most stunning views the world has to offer, there’s no doubt Jasper leaves a mark. The town charms us for just how un-tourist-like it is; sure, there are gift shops and hotels, but there are many local restaurants, outfitters and spots for coffee, too.
Despite the pressure to Gucci-ize itself, to transform itself into an outdoor mall in the Rockies, Jasper has retained the charm of being a place where the feel is decidedly un-commercial. Now, as the town rebuilds after a devastating wildfire, we celebrate the old Jasper, and look forward to the new Jasper to come.
