Odvod Publishing Inc., is located in Edmonton, Alberta and is seeking an associate editor for Edify magazine and the online magazine Urban Affairs.
This position reports directly to the editor-in-chief. It’s an in-office position that is full-time with a salary based on experience.
Edify is a city magazine that reflects the attitudes, ideas, energy and sophistication of its resident city. With diverse writing voices and superb art direction, Edify’s editorial features also challenge readers by pushing boundaries and bringing the best in local journalism. Edify is a cultural artifact for our city and authentically reflects Edmonton in a way that informs and intrigues, uplifts and entertains. This flagship title has several brand extensions, in particular Top 40 Under 40 and the Best Restaurants event.
Urban Affairs is an online magazine that brings voice to issues that affect readers in the capital region by tackling city stories with in-depth, researched narratives as well as opinion pieces.
Odvod Publishing’s magazine titles are under the direction of Editor-in-Chief Omar Mouallem.
Job Description
Writing high-quality print copy
Doing secondary edits for the print magazine
Leading Edify’s three weekly digital publications, including budget, planning, and assigning
Pitch thoughtful articles for Edify magazine and Urban Affairs at weekly story meetings
Collaborating with the publishing team for story ideation, assigning, fact checking and proofreading
Following editorial and production processes
Supporting the publishing brands which includes active involvement in Odvod’s events and activations
Occasionally speaking on behalf of Edify magazine on radio, TV, and public events
Occasionally networking and researching at events on behalf of Edify
Qualifications
At least two years of experience in editorial-focused roles with strong skills in substantive editing and copy-editing
Thorough knowledge of CP style
Proven experience in story ideation
Strong sense of curiosity and creativity
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Detail-oriented and organized
Ability to juggle competing priorities; good time management
Able to work in a team-environment that is passionate about magazine journalism
