This is an opportunity to join the award-winning team at Edify magazine, Edmonton’s pre-eminent city lifestyle publication. We’re known for our compelling journalism, bold design, and deep connection to the local community — we’re looking for someone who’s eager to contribute to all aspects of a modern magazine brand.
You’re passionate about storytelling and excited to learn about magazine publishing from every angle — print, web and social media. You thrive in fast-paced environments, are always up for discovering something new, and can represent Edify with curiosity, confidence and professionalism.
You have a strong writing voice that’s distinct and clear, and understand how to tailor that voice across different platforms. You are plugged into the social-media zeitgeist, but you’re proud that your writing voice isn’t influenced by Instagram or marketing-speak. You’re familiar with WordPress and social media tools, and have experience with CP Style and fact-checking best practices.
This opportunity is a paid 17-week internship (40 hours per week) located at our Edmonton office, with a planned start date of mid-May 2025. The role must be filled by a candidate who is currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of (within the last five years), an accredited post-secondary institution. You cannot have previously held an intern position at any Alberta magazine through the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association program.
Qualifications: The successful applicant will have
Strong writing and editing skills, with an eye for detail and accuracy.
Familiarity with WordPress, Google Workspace and social media platforms.
Enthusiasm for lifestyle journalism and community-focused storytelling.
Ability to meet deadlines, work collaboratively and pitch creative ideas.
What You’ll Do
Gain hands-on experience with all facets of magazine production: print, web and social.
Contribute to the development of Edify’s weekly e-newsletters.
Conduct interviews, write stories and assist with fact-checking, for print and digital.
Work closely on Edify‘s dining and arts coverage — two of our most-read areas.
Participate in editorial meetings and pitch story ideas.
Attend Edify-hosted and partner events as a brand ambassador.
