Coming this weekend to the big top in Hawrelak Park is Symphony Under the Sky, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra’s annual outdoor concert series and season kickoff.
Popular and personable conductor Robert Bernhardt is back after a two-year hiatus to lead the orchestra through Hollywood Hits on September 1 and 3 (featuring selections from Harry Potter, Back to the Future, How to Train Your Dragon and Fiddler on the Roof, among others), and the classically themed festival favourites on September 2 and 4.
Whichever you choose, and whether there’s sun or light rain, gather the friends and the kids (there will be elephant ears and mini doughnuts) and soak up a late summer evening with the sounds of strings. Take advantage of the seating up front, or bring a blanket and relax on the grassy hills. Get there early to enjoy food from Drift and Dosi-Rock Korean.
It’s the last chance to see the symphony in Hawrelak for a couple of years, as the park will close for renovations.
This is a licensed event. Tickets at winspearcentre.com, where you can also review the symphony’s entire upcoming season.
