Quarters Arts Society has recently moved into its new home, CO*LAB, located on 96th Street. CO*LAB, Community {Arts} Laboratory will function as a citizen-led, community-run facility, that will connect communities, share knowledge and ideas, and make space to collaborate, create, and celebrate art in the Boyle Street area.
This Thursday, Quarters Arts is hosting an opening night of its first show in the new space, “Riding Horses with White Men” by artist Jae Sterling. The event will be held on October 1, between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Capacity will be limited due to COVID-19. All social distancing and safety measures will be in effect.
The RHWWM exhibit is a cross cultural, multimedia body of work examining race, sexuality, violence and art’s ability to retell and heal histories while simultaneously violating them. Themes of repressed blackness, diasporic identity, the divine masculine and historic violence will be present in every medium.
After tomorrow, the exhibit will be available for viewing from October 2 to 7, between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.
You can purchase a ticket for tomorrow’s event via the website.
