Fall might be inching closer everyday, but there’s still a few weekends of summer left and Vignettes is celebrating with a Vignettes Summer Party. Expect art installations, DJs, food and drinks, plus the reveal of two new murals and an announcement about the Vignettes 2021 Festival.
“It’s a celebration of some of the work we’ve been working on in the downtime of COVID, and hopefully bringing people back into kind of a cautious, but fun environment to celebrate,” says Leigh Wright, CEO of Vignettes.
The two-day extravaganza is the perfect way to celebrate the end of summer and the official comeback of the Vignettes since the 2020 festival was a no-go. Two new murals specially designed for The Backyard will be revealed (one is 40 inches long) and signature Vignettes installations like Grassy Knolls and giant light up mushrooms will decorate the space.
“It’s kind of going to be like an art installation garden,” says Wright. “We’re filling [the festival] with local food trucks, really great local musicians, and just a fun summery outdoor vibe as we get ready to put on our winter coats.”
Music will set the scene all weekend long, whether you’re dancing at the front of the wooden plank stage or casually listening as you take in the sights around you. The lineup includes Thomas Culture, Taimoore & sssolu from Rhythmic Spaces, Midnight Movies and DJ Navasia.
If music and art installations aren’t enough to excite you, then free food might do the trick. Complimentary food is available for guests between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday to keep your energy levels high. You wouldn’t want to leave early and miss out on the exciting announcement about the 2021 Vignettes Festival.
“It’s a hyper-local event, and a way to amplify all the people that we’ve worked with and have worked with in the past, and just to have a celebration,” says Wright. “One thing we’re doing is urging anyone who’s coming out to follow the COVID protocols. We’ll be recommending masks at the door, and social distancing and sanitizing as much as we possibly can, in the places we can.”
The Vignettes Summer Party is at The Backyard (10004 103A Ave NW) on August 27 from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. and August 28 from 3 p.m. to late. Tickets are available online for $30 or $40 at the door.
