For the fourth year running, Avenue has brought together a group of culinary experts to rank the top restaurants in the city in a wide range of categories.
Sort of like the Oscars, we start big and end big. We kick off the section looking at the five best new restaurants in the city. And, just like the Oscars finish with the awarding of Best Picture, we wrap things up with the awarding of the title of Best Restaurant.
In between, we tell you where to find the best burgers, steaks and pizza; we rank restaurants in a variety of categories, from Best Latin to Best Chinese to Best Japanese. We’ll tell you where to take your client to lunch and where to take the family for Sunday brunch.
Every year, the choices become more difficult to make as the Edmonton restaurant scene expands. Accordingly, we spread out our forum this year to have our biggest judging panel ever.
The panel included food experts Tina Faiz and Gail Hall; former Avenue staffers Omar Mouallem and Caroline Barlott; celebrated chef and author Brad Smoliak of Kitchen by Brad; NAIT culinary instructor Mike Maione; and our editorial staff.
We hope that you hold onto this section and use it as a guide to Edmonton’s expanding food landscape. We think of this as a tribute to how far our culinary scene has progressed in just a few short years.
*Because of the lead times needed to compile the lists, only restaurants that were in operation before Nov. 1, 2014, were considered.
