Queen Alexandra Hall was transformed into a 1960s prom on June 22 at Spike the Punch! Grad ’62, a Workshop West Theatre fundraiser. Approximately $8,000 was raised through tickets and also a silent auction. Close to 70 volunteers, members and fans of the theatre group aiming to promote new playwrights donned their best ruffled shirts and puffy prom dresses, danced to the ’60s tribute band, Thirst ‘n Howl and ate from a buffet provided by the Pourhouse Bier Bistro.
Artistic director of Workshop West, Michael Clark, was among them, dressed in a ’70s era suit he jokes came from the back of his father-in-law’s closet: “It’s a chance for us to put on our fancy duds and invite people to see what we’re all about.”
True to the theme, attendees voted for a Prom King and Queen and took part in a contest where they matched board members with their actual graduation photos, with the occasional celebrity prom photo interspersed among them.
