When someone has been buying the same item from the same restaurant for 30 years, you know it has to be good. That’s how long Camille and Peter Robertson have been going to Vi’s For Pies on Stony Plain Road in Glenora. The Robertsons agree that the reason they keep choosing Vi’s is the consistency. The Bumbleberry Pie is their favourite, and the shop has been making it to the same high standards the entire time they’ve been going.
Peter Robertson founded the gallery that bears his name on 124 Street in 2004 when he made the career switch from being a golf pro at Glendale Golf and Country Club to selling Canadian art. This wasn’t a new field for him however, as he had already been collecting art since university. And the gallery is only a six-minute drive away from Vi’s — all the better for picking up the couple’s favourite dessert.
The pies available at Vi’s change day-to-day depending on the ingredients they have on hand, but they almost always have bumbleberry, featuring blueberries, raspberries, strawberry rhubarb and apple. And it’s possible to grab a meal. The menu includes appetizers, bunwiches that can be made into a combo with a soup, and pie-based entrees like shepherd’s pie, chicken pot pie and beef pot pie. But for the Robertsons, the shop is all about the dessert pies and the cozy neighbourhood location.
