Jenn Kingsnorth describes her craft soap business as a star-aligned love story.
“When Mike and I first got together about five years ago, I had just discovered my passion for soap-making,” shares Jenn. The pair were both born in the Vancouver area, their paths crossed a few times without knowing, and finally met each other in the Greater Edmonton Area in their 40s. Now, the couple have sweetened up their lives with calming scents and bubbles.
“You’d be surprised how many dishes are created when making soap,” explains Jenn, who makes most of the production decisions.
All soaps at Mike and Jenn’s are made under the traditional cold-press method and in small batches. Jenn believes that soap making is as sophisticated as cheese making.
The pair made a blast of their Valentine’s Day special pre-order. Their rose-filled Honey Heart soap bars melted people’s hearts. Almost all their soaps are also built in artsy shapes, or engraved with spiral patterns or floral designs.
The pair have also expanded their products to body butter, shampoo bar and hair oil. After a short winter break, they’ve updated a few things for the business and are ready to stand by each other’s side, in the kitchen and in all parts of their lives.
“We’re called ‘Mike and Jenn Craft Soap’ because I just had to put Mike’s name first, because he always puts me first in life,” says Jenn. “It’s my way to return his favours and to make sure he understands how important he is in this little operation.”
