When Natasia Martin makes cards, she thinks about people around her, sweet memories and how to make the recipient feel special. She remembers every card she’s made.
“At first, it was as simple as coming up with a visual solution for my husband’s birthday,” recalls Martin. “Now I reflect on life experiences in my design.”
Martin officially started Natasia Makes in January 2021, and she made many baby themed cards shortly after giving birth to her little one. Her wish was simple: to empower new mothers to positively resonate with the special feelings when welcoming their newborns.
The cards Martin makes usually have bold, bright colours and fun lettering. Her use of puns also help lighten the mood. One of Martin’s favourite cards is the “A Million Thanks,” with a math equation on the cover.
“I asked my engineer husband to do the math. It’s like a fun collaboration with really smart people,” she says.
Along with her fun greeting cards, Martin designs art print and posters, decals and stickers, necklaces and birth charts. Those cute illustrations now stand on shelves at many local retailers, including Parcel and Prose, Maven and Grace, and Majesty and Friends.
