For the past 15 years, Kenton Jeske has been honing his skills as a woodworker, creating elegant, understated custom furniture for clients across Alberta. His aesthetic is at once classic and modern — a look he attributes to his work being “designer craftsman furniture.”
“I’m involved in every aspect of how my work comes about,” he says.
“The ‘designer’ part is the artistic, creative element to composing the right kind of furniture with the right kind of proportions and specifications to whoever I might be working with. And then the ‘craftsman’ part is the level of meticulousness and attention to detail that I look for in my work.”
While Jeske has done some work for commercial spaces — including the Louis Vuitton store in West Edmonton Mall — his specialty is home furniture, including tables, chairs and desks. Although all of his custom-designed pieces are based on the needs and desires of the clients he works with, there are some common elements linking the designs in his portfolio.
“There is a bit of a line of design that threads its way through everything — some things that I’ve developed in my aesthetic that I like to stick to,” he says. “I like that look, and I’m trying to build a brand that’s distinguishable based upon a visual element.”
