What started as a hobby born out of boredom turned into a flourishing business venture for Keiron Walker and Ian Earnshaw, founders of Soap So Co. The two discovered soap-making videos on YouTube and immediately ordered DIY kits to try it themselves, falling in love with the process.
“We had thousands of bars of soap, and we were like, ‘we can’t just give them to friends and family as much as we’d like to,’” says Walker. “There was a farmers’ market opening in town and it sounded amazing, and we’re still there to this day.”
Soap So Co. found its home at the Bountiful Farmers Market; but the bars are also available on Soap So Co.’s website and at 19 local retailers. Soap So Co’s best-selling bar soaps are Beach Breeze, Confetti, Rose Quartz and Lemongrass.
What sets Soap So Co. apart from other soap companies is its dedication to sustainable, artisanal soaps. Each bar of soap is artistically designed and boxed in recyclable cardstock made in Edmonton. Each product is vegan, cruelty free, and uses locally sourced natural ingredients.
“We have nightmares sometimes of our packaging washing up on a beach and being featured in a David Attenborough TV show,” says Walker. “We try our best to reduce waste wherever possible.”
