Edmonton is at a tipping point – one where our world-class talent and creativity could open new frontiers and define our city’s future.
As we look toward every exciting, unpredictable tomorrow, Innovate Edmonton will be there to bring our brightest minds together, ignite the imaginations of our city’s entrepreneurs and support the communities that strengthen the city.
Innovate Edmonton brings together and supports the city’s most driven tech sector entrepreneurs and visionaries. A division of Edmonton Economic Development Corporation (EEDC) charged with Edmonton’s economic growth and diversification, its purpose is to help entrepreneurs take groundbreaking ideas to market – whether they are a startup or a high-potential scale-up – by bringing the right people, resources and funding together specific to their idea. Why focus on innovation? Because an innovative city is a prosperous city. Technology enabled innovation companies grow quickly and create wealth at higher rates than traditional sectors. They also accelerate our economy’s diversification. When these companies excel, so do all Edmontonians.
And innovation is a place where our city already excels: Edmonton is one of three Canadian Artificial Intelligence superclusters, along with Toronto-Waterloo and Montreal. The University of Alberta is ranked third globally for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning research according to the global Computer Science Rankings – ahead of places such as Stanford and MIT. An array of up-and-coming technology companies are already raising funds, hiring employees and expanding their reach. They include Clinisys, Drivewyze, Exciton, Granify, Gfycat, Jobber, Metabolomic Technologies, SAM, Scope AR, Showbie and Tevosol – and the list keeps growing. They’ll join companies such as Intuit, BioWare, Yardstick, DynaLIFE, Investopedia and CompuVision in putting Edmonton on the map as an innovation capital.
Innovate Edmonton wants to see the city recognized as one of the top centres for technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. That’s why it collaborates to create the best possible environment for tech enabled startup and scale-up company growth.
