Do I have to get out of my joggers? I’m a homebody at heart! Running KariSkelton.com from our house while looking after our little guy, I’m mostly in athletic and loungewear. That won’t change, and I’m not mad about it. However, every once in a while, I love to put on a cute outfit and head out with girlfriends for drinks or a nice dinner with my husband. For that, it’s either a great pair of jeans, a blouse and a blazer or a cute, flowy, floral midi dress. Ryan (Jespersen) and I cannot wait for date nights out at some of our favourite local restaurants! Biera, RGE RD and Uccellino are first on our list.
Is there a special accessory that completes your look? Does it have a story?
For my birthday a few years ago, Ryan gifted me a beautiful Honour Shield Cocktail Ring from So Pretty Cara Cotter. It’s one of my favourite pieces, and instantly makes me feel pretty! During the pandemic, I would pop it on while working from home in my pjs to infuse a little glam.
Is there something you’ve worn through the pandemic that you never want to see again?
Not really. (I’m happy about tie-dye sweatsuits!)
Did you cut or dye your own hair during the pandemic?
Heck no! I leave that to the professionals. I just let it go, and wore a tuque more often.
Has there been something you’ve been putting off doing during the pandemic, that you can’t wait to do?
Besides travel? Getting a pedicure! I can.not.wait.
What is one thing you learned about yourself during the pandemic?
I learned I never want to be as busy as we were before. We packed our schedules so full of commitments, we were exhausted. And the quality of our home life suffered. Moving forward, we’re going to be much more mindful and thoughtful with our commitments, work and what we say yes to. Family time is sacred to us, and we’ve reconnected and even grown so much closer over the past year.
Did you clean out your closet, edit your wardrobe during the pandemic?
Pre-pandemic, I would do a closet detox twice a year. However, I didn’t really touch my closet during the pandemic until this past January, when I purged my wardrobe to better reflect my day-to-day. I’m a big believer that having fewer items in your closet makes it so much easier to put outfits together, and actually enjoy doing it! Not a ‘capsule wardrobe,’ per se, but pared-down enough that you’re not overwhelmed by choices.
Is there an Edmonton or area boutique that’s your first destination when shopping for clothes?
I love so many local boutiques! Shop the Skinny always has an amazing selection of fun casual dresses, Red Ribbon carries my favourite Day Dreamer t-shirts (and so much more), Bamboo Ballroom and Elle’s Closet always have awesome jackets, and the list goes on!
