Top 40 Under 40 alumni Matt Moreau and Kori Chilibeck have traveled the world to support the United Nations’ World Food Programme. Their company, Earth Group, sells water and coffee, with proceeds going to help needy people around the planet.
But, as their hometown deals with the COVID-19 pandemic, they’ve decided to look locally when creating their new assistance program. Earth Group has pledged to fund a minimum of 100 meals a day for the next 30 days, targeting Edmonton and area food banks.
“It feels good to do something for the place where we both grew up,” says Chilibeck. “It is a city that has treated us pretty well, we’re fortunate to be here.”
On top of what Earth Group has already pledged, it will provide one extra meal for every case of water or bag of coffee sold over the next month. And, for every meal Earth Group provides, the Italian Centre Shop and Klein Wealth Management will come up with matching donations.
Chillibeck said that Shoppers Drug Mart locations have already bought 1,700 Earth Group cases of water or bags of coffee, so the meal number is going up. The target is 50,000 meals purchased in Edmonton.
