Let the (outdoor) games begin! And, in a city full of creatives, you don’t have to look very far for good ol’ fashioned, youthful fun. Or do you?
For over 20 years, local master of metal Slavo Cech has been creating stunning pieces of hand-forged art that you’d find in a carefully designed home, or as an accent piece in a beautiful community garden. He’s even been commissioned by the City of Edmonton for a presentation sculpture for His Royal Highness Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex. Cech combines traditional and contemporary blacksmithing techniques to add character and panache to estate homes and commercial spaces. But he’s also apparently really into hide and seek.
You see, Cech has publicly challenged Edmontonians to find his latest artwork creation, in the form of a nest sculpture. No clues, no hints, no treasure map. Just an open invitation for someone’s keen eyes to find what could easily be hidden in over 680 square kilometres of our beloved city. And his only hint? He favours abstract nature and his work is “never meant to be perceived as representational.”
Although we’re not sure the sculpture itself is the prize once discovered, we honestly just love the idea of seeing people randomly peeking through trees on their daily stroll. For what it’s worth, there are a reported 299,000 landscape trees alone on City property. This might take a while.
